Hargen aan Zee beach
Hargen aan Zee is one of the smallest and most peaceful beaches in the area. No promenade, no crowds, just dunes, sand and sea. If you fancy somewhere quieter than the larger seaside resorts, this is a great place to head.
The beach sits at the northern end of the Hondsbossche Zeewering, with plenty of scope for long walks along the coast towards Camperduin and Petten.
How to get there
From Strand49, it takes around 45 minutes to cycle there along the coast. Don’t have a bike with you? You can hire a bike, e-bike or beach trolley from us. If you’re driving, there is parking by the beach entrance. Parking is free outside the summer season, while charges apply during the busier summer months.
Beach pavilion
Hargen has one beach pavilion: Beach Pavilion Hargen, a welcoming spot that blends nicely into its surroundings. There’s even a water bowl for dogs by the entrance, a small touch that makes it clear four-legged visitors are very welcome too.
As it’s the only place to eat and drink on this stretch of beach, it can get busy on sunny days, so it’s worth arriving a little earlier.
Walking along the coast
Hargen is a popular starting or finishing point for a walk along the Hondsbossche Zeewering. Since the coastline was reinforced, a wide new beach has formed in front of the old sea defence, giving you miles of uninterrupted walking with the sea on one side and the dunes on the other.
Visiting with your dog
Hargen falls within the Municipality of Bergen, where the rules for dogs are different from those in the Municipality of Schagen. As a general rule, dogs can be off the lead outside the summer season, while daytime restrictions apply during the busier summer months. With so much space and a generally quieter atmosphere, Hargen is a great beach to visit with your dog.
It’s always best to check the latest rules on the Municipality of Bergen website before you go.
Dogs are welcome in all accommodation at Strand49 at no extra charge. You can find our park rules for dogs in the FAQs.
