Sint Maartenszee beach
It’s just a ten to fifteen-minute bike ride away through the dunes, or around half an hour on foot. Sint Maartenszee beach is wide, wonderfully peaceful and home to two beach pavilions that are open in both summer and winter.
How to get there
Cycling is the nicest way to go. From the park, the route takes you straight into the dunes and along Burgemeester Breebaartweg to the beach entrance. On the way, you’ll pass the Pettemerduinen, while in spring the dune valleys come into bloom. Don’t have a bike with you? You can hire a bike, e-bike or beach trolley from us.
If you’re coming by car, parking is free. From the car park, it’s another 700 to 800 metres along the beach access path before you reach the sand. It’s worth keeping this in mind if you’re travelling with young children or carrying lots of beach gear. In that case, a beach trolley comes in very handy.
The beach access paths are only open to pedestrians, cyclists and authorised vehicles. Cars are not permitted. You can find the latest rules on the website of the Municipality of Schagen. Sint Maartenszee has two numbered beach access points, both on Burgemeester Breebaartweg. In June, July and August, the Sint Maartenszee lifeguard service patrols the beach at access points 14 and 15 seven days a week. The lifeguard station is located between the two beach pavilions. The service has been operating since 1970 and updates its safety advice daily according to sea conditions. When you arrive, check the beach flags or look up the latest advice before setting off. Toilets are available at the beach pavilions. You’ll also find litter bins, bicycle parking near the beach entrances and plenty of free parking, including accessible spaces.Beach access points

Beach pavilions
Sint Maartenszee has two beach pavilions, both open all year round. They have been part of the same family business since 1949 and are now run with great enthusiasm by Peter, his family and friends.
- Strandpaviljoen Noord, by beach access 14
Open in both summer and winter, with views across the North Sea. A lovely spot for coffee and cake after a walk on the beach, or for dinner as the sun goes down. - Strandpaviljoen NewZuid, by beach access 15
Spacious, with a large terrace, plenty of seating and shade from the sun. There is an extensive lunch and dinner menu, and you can play volleyball or pool by the beach.
Both pavilions offer a dinner-by-the-sea taxi service, collecting you from the public road and taking you back again afterwards. Particularly handy if you’re visiting with a larger group or would rather avoid walking through the sand. Dogs are welcome on the beach at Sint Maartenszee. There are two clearly marked areas where dogs can be let off the lead. From 1 May to 1 October, dogs need to stay on a lead between 9 am and 7 pm. Before 9 am, after 7 pm and during the rest of the year, they can be off the lead. You’ll find the latest information and locations on the Municipality of Schagen website. On hot days, it’s best to visit the beach early in the morning or later in the evening. If the sand feels too hot under your bare feet, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws too. And don’t forget to bring some fresh water. Dogs are also welcome in all accommodation at Strand49 at no extra charge. You can bring up to two dogs per pitch or accommodation.
